Research and Data

About the ND SLDS Research Workgroup

The North Dakota SLDS Research Workgroup is made up of individuals from across all agencies with data included in the SLDS, such as ND DPI, NDUS, and Job Service. Our primary focus is the development of useful research utilizing the Statewide Longitudinal Data System to the benefit of all levels of education and workforce development in North Dakota.

What are our research priorities?

Past research objectives have included studying the following:

  • Development of indicators on each 7-12 teacher’s student roster page to indicate whether or not their student is at risk of needing math or English remediation upon entry into a postsecondary institution.
  • The re-enrollment and employment rates of North Dakota University System graduates in North Dakota.
  • The rates of postsecondary (in or out-of-state) enrollment for ND high school graduates by high school.
  • The percentage of ND high school graduates who take remedial coursework upon enrollment in an NDUS institution for each ND high school.
  • The rates of ND high school graduates who earn 24 credits within 2 years of NDUS enrollment for each ND high school.
  • Is GPA or ACT Composite more indicative of student success in NDUS Community institutions?
  • What effect does taking remedial coursework have on on-time Associate Degree completion in NDUS Community institutions?
  • What effect does Math remediation have on success in the first semester of College Algebra?
  • What effect does English remediation have on success in the first semester of English Composition I?
  • When comparing students who have taken Dual Credit and/or Advanced Placement courses to students who have not taken either, does one group graduate on-time from NDUS Community colleges more often than another?

Research priorities are currently being developed.
